Does God need us?

The other night a friend and I were talking and he brought up an interesting topic. Did God create us to fulfill his need of praise? He went on to say that him thinking this way makes him want to praise God more, because he feels he can give back a portion of what God gives us daily. I had an interesting thought that followed his. We are made in Gods image and likeness, and God talks about love often one of the easiest ways to show love is by praise.

1 Cr 13:4:8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. If He gave us that desire does He not posses that same desire.

Lets explore that. As I searched the web I found many different responses. Some suggest that God needs us to praise Him or to spread his word, Others suggest that it is not a need but a desire, some believe He does not need us at all. I am not sure if we were created to fulfill a need for God but lets look at some things the bible says we were created to do.

Rev. 4:11 says, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." We are created for His pleasure, the first thing I would like to point out is back up to the fact that we are made in His image He creates like we do. Some people need to create while others create out of necessity (ex. setting up their house, or clothes a certain way.) I'm sure God is capable of doing both.

Colossians 1:16 states "For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him."

The Bible doesn't clearly define wither God had a need or not but it is very interesting to talk about so what do you think?
